Apra Greater Houston

About Us

Donor researchers. Portfolio strategists. Data analysts. Development service professionals. System administrators.

We wear all those hats (and sometimes more), but we are all passionate about the organizations where we work and we strive to achieve excellence in the fundraising processes we touch.

APRA Greater Houston is the local chapter of APRA International that connects us together right here, where we live and work. The goal of our chapter is to create a strong community to enrich us all, personally and professionally. We strive to present educational programming throughout the year to inspire ideas and stimulate conversation.

Thank you for being a member of our chapter and contributing to the ongoing dialogue about this profession to which we are all committed. We value you!

History

Apra Greater Houston (Apra GH) is the local chapter of Apra International.

The bylaws for Apra GH were first ratified on November 14, 1991. Some of the founding members of the group included representatives of Baylor College of Medicine, Neuhaus Education Center and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.  The first annual Apra GH workshop was held in the early 2005 at Houston Baptist University and featured David Lamb as a keynote speaker.

Apra GH’s history is closely intertwined with Apra Texas, which began as an official regional chapter in 1993.  Apra TX became Apra Southwest in 2001 with the addition of Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma to its service area. Apra Southwest became dormant after 2009.

There were many people who were instrumental in the founding and development of Apra GH, including Wilmer Hunt McCorquodale, Lauretta Knight, Jo Ward, Barbara Shreffler, Ali McLane, Roya Esfandi, Larissa Potiomkin, Diane Korb, and Debbie Benigus Amador, among many others.
