Historic Glenwood Cemetery walking tour
Join us for a 90-minute walking tour of of Glenwood Cemetery, established in 1871, is one of Houston’s most significant historic spaces. The cemetery was one of the first formally landscaped places in the city, and it is the only example in Texas of a Victorian garden cemetery, a rural, parklike type of burial ground that became popular in 19th-century America. Glenwood’s lush grounds are the resting place of scores of influential Houstonians including billionaire Howard Hughes, movie star Gene Tierney, Astrodome builder Roy Hofheinz and publisher and stateswoman Oveta Culp Hobby. This walking tour is covering about three-quarters of a mile, Preservation Houston docents will introduce you to Glenwood and share some of its fascinating stories.

Parking Note: **new details** Parking is available along the entrance drive inside the front gate if possible — the cemetery is wanting to keep as many spots available as possible for visitors in the front parking lot.
Meeting Point: The tour will meet in front of the Center for Glenwood (the cemetery office building just inside the gate). Please arrive 10 minutes early.
